Assembly is pretty simple and straightforward, but the self-tapping Phillips-head screws can be a difficult to get started without stripping the heads. Getting them to make that first bite through the sheet metal takes a lot of pressure and torque. A TORX or socket head would have been much more appropriate than Phillips. That part was pretty frustrating.
It's not a particularly robust safe, but you get what you pay for. It's not fire rated at all, it won't keep out a thief, but unless your kids are particularly horrible, determined, destructive and won't care that they got caught, it should be more than enough to keep them out of it.
If you're looking for a safe that has some fire protection and will delay a thief for more than a two minutes, you'll have to spend a lot more.
For me and my needs, good enough is good enough.
