When I saw this unit advertising 230V label I figured that its simply going to be a unit with a 1:1 winding that could only output what went in and that the mfr would be too lazy to relabel it for the North America market.Sure enough when I unpacked the unit it stated 230V but imagine my surprise when I cranked up the unit from a 115V ac input and the thing shot all the way up to 260V! Meaning that it is indeed a step up transformer. Looking closely I saw that the hot wire is connected to the winding half-way up the coil so the numbers check out. Please note that this is NOT an isolated transformer so either put an isolated transformer in-front or behind it if that's how you intend to use it. You can get 500VA isolated step down 2:1 transformers for cheap under $40 on many sites. Well built and great value for money. Also as other reviewers have noted the Hot and Neutral poles are reversed on the output and I had to spend 5 minutes opening up the unit and soldering the wires around.
