Bought this for a 2 week car trip with multiple stops. The first good thing to say is that there is a range of sizes, so you will need to consider your use cases and decide the minimum size you can get by with (at least that was my approach to save both cost and space in the car). We've had thermoelectric coolers and knew their limitations (only able to cool 20-30 degrees below ambient, e.g., 90F to 60F, not really "cold"). I was excited to find this family of 12V compressor-based coolers. The one downside of this cooler type is that the compressor takes up about 30% of the overall volume (at least in this 20L size). This could be better with larger coolers, i.e., the compressor volume doesn't need to scale directly with the cooled volume. This size worked great for our needs. We had about 10 beverage cans, some packaged foods (cheese, salsa, etc.) and fresh veggies to start. During the trip we were able to add carryout containers from restaurant meals and always had enough room. Later, we bought a box of wine and with some food and beverages gone, were able to fit that in.
Functionally, this cooler just goes about its job with no drama. It comes with both a 12V cord and a power supply (that puts out 12V) so you can carry it inside and plug it in. The display is small and dim (blue LED), so it is a bit hard to read in bright light, but you just need to get close and cup your hand around it to read it. Unplugging and replugging (12V or 120V), does not require you to turn it back on; it remembers the state (power on and set temp) so all you need to do is just unplug, move, and plug in again. I started with it set to 32F and found N/A beverages starting to freeze, so I set it up to 34F and everything was at the perfect temp.
Easy to use as it remembers the settings when unplugged. Just unplug, move and plug in again. Forms a little frost around the top edge of the cooler space, but this is to be expected given it is capable of deep freeze temperatures. I haven't tested that, but it should work fine. Highly recommended, or get a bigger one if your needs and budget support that. Probably not worth getting the smallest one, unless you just need to cool a few cans.
