Bought for a 3 yo but took it out to check and ended up playing for at least 20 minutes. Comes with a music book that is easy to follow, but I got an 8 tongue drum and some songs are for drums with more notes. The sound is very soothing even when you hit random notes, so kids can have the freedom to be creative without giving parents a headache. The drumstick ends are probably not good for kids under 3 that put stuff in their mouths, but above that age any kid or adult would probably enjoy playing this. It has notes about how to tune it, but this was reasonably well in tune. I excited to see the reaction to this gift and might buy for others.
