Exactly as expected
The reviews on this were very hit or miss, with more hits than misses. I must have gotten a better one than some of the poor reviews. The anvil is as advertised. It has a perfect surface to work on, but the rest is clearly cast and has the imperfections to show for it. Inside the Hardy hole you can see it is kind of an afterthought when this was made. It looks like it was originally a circle, and then turned into a square. Dimensions are as described however, and it is almost a square. But again, after reading the reviews, you know what to expect. I will need to file down a blob of steel in the Hardy hole, but other than that, everything is ready to use. I don't mind the blue paint, and will decide whether or not I need to perfect the surface of the horn. It has very small raised bumps on it from the mold that look and feel like letters written in braille. They are spaced out around the entire horn, but I can't imagine at the stage I am in, having to worry about them being any more than a minute amount of sanding on the belt. For the money, and that is the trick, for the money, I couldn't be happier. I was able to buy everything else I needed to start making knives, for the difference of what a finer anvil would have cost. And at this point in my journey, I don't need a finer anvil. This one is probably more than I need as it is. And there is the value. Very happy with it.

its an anvil
I am a novice blacksmith:It is exactly what you would expect. A descent sized anvil. Has quite a ring. Good bounce. There is going to be some extensive clean up to get rid of that blue paint, to reshape the horn into an actual horn, and to correct some minor defects. Looks like the hardy hole will need some attention as well. Worst case in a few years, i will use it as a punch plate and frequently used hardy tool holder. The "Gift hammer" i got was a crappy 100 gram piece of junk, not the 500 gram one advertised. At least my 9 year old will get to play blacksmith with it, after i reset the head on a new handle.

More then I hoped for.
I have waited to give this review because i was worried about longevity. I have pounded at this anvil and ran it threw the paces. anything from chisels and ball peen hammers have had direct hits on the face with very small reflection. It did well with a 16 lb sledge hammer with overhead swinging. The surface is very flat and the edges were very sharp I filled my edges down a bit because i was worred about chipping. the hardy was 7/8 by 15/16 with lots of paint and some sort of crusty stuff set aside 5 hours with a file if you want to fix that. face was very hard with a 95 % rebound. This anvil has helped me get twice the work done that i did on my 80 lb railroad track joint in half the time.

Beast of an anvil that anyone can afford.
This anvil is absolutely what the blacksmithing community needs. Affordable, cast 1045 steel. Has great rebound, rings like a church bell, and so far has held up well. Big magnets are a must so break apart an old speaker or subwoofer to dull the ring and securely mount it to a nice base. Its loud. Strip the horn and round it out when ya get it for sure. Break the edges with a flap disk and plan to clean up the hardy hole. The pritchel hole is basically useless unless you have a 1" round bar to turn into a hold down tool. An option for the hold down would be to make a hardy tool for the hold down to sit in. Overall I'm extremely satisfied with the anvil. No clue what the hell I'm supposed to do with the 1 lb tack hammer they sent with it lol.UPDATE -2 years of daily use in my profession as a blacksmith. The anvil has held up wonderfully.Worth noting for the rebound tests... I use the anvil directly above the base/foot by the round horn both near side and far for anything I can. That is the area with the best rebound. There have been a few dinks here and there in the face but that's any anvil. In the two years of daily use I've also developed a few surface cracks at the far side in the area I use most. Have been there for probably a year but haven't gotten worse.

Decent anvil, especially at the price
Weighs 108 lbs instead of 110, but has great rebound and seems like a solid anvil for me to get a lot of work done. Not a fan of the blue paint, will have to remove.

Small jewellery type anvil
This small anvil arrived quickly. I did have to take a floppy disk to it and remove a couple cast imperfections, reshape the horn, but all in all it's worth the money. I use it for small jewellery and it works well for that, I wouldn't try making knifes on an anvil this small. Btw, it is steel and not cast iron.

Well worth the price!
With silversmithing as a hobby I occasionally make an iron or steel tool so this little anvil does double duty. Would like to have one of its bigger brothers but have no room for anything bigger than the 22 lb / 10 kg that I purchased. Should anything happen to this one, I would replace it with an identical anvil. I'm just that pleased and couldn't be happier with this purchase. Had almost given up finding one this size and pattern in steel.Travis

Best bang for buck
It needs some dressing up out of the box. The blue paint is hideous. It's not quite as nice as a name brand anvil. But for the hobbyist that can't find a good old anvil it works good. Two notes for the manufacturer (as if they'll ever see this). Stop filling it with bondo, and stop painting it. They look so much better with the casting imperfections on display and in a natural steel color.

Smaller than I expected.
It was smaller than I expected, but I think it will work for most of my purposes.

Great value, great anvil
I have a ranch and this anvil is the perfect size or general blacksmithing!
