I like the clear plug that lights up so you know positively you have a good connection. I used it for a few days now to help clear a clogged rain gutter and it did great! It warms up fairly fast and melts ice near to it. I know it is made for pipes, but I figures using it to open a rain gutter is another good use, and it worked as expected.

I have had to use this heat tape for outside use since the beginning of November. My wife and I are currently living in a camper on our property since our house burned down. Our neighbors are letting us use their water supply for the camper it���s 240 feet from their house to the camper. Before I installed the heat tape our water hose froze up 5 times. After wrapping the hose in the heat tape it has not froze anymore. Our problem has been solved with this product and I would recommend it to anyone who has a problem with freezing water lines. The automatic thermostat is a great feature for me. This is a 5 star rating for me!

Before installing this, I plugged it in and tested it. It is frigid outside, so it came on immediately and started warming up. I would highly recommend you test these out, of any brand, before you take the time and effort to install this. And that���s all it really take to install these. Time and effort. Very little skill. I got the 60ft cable, which was quite tedious to install, but I needed to replace the heat line on the pipe that brings water into my cabin from the well. The heat line came with some strapping tape that can be used to adhere it to the pipe with. But I preferred to use some leftover aluminum tape I had gotten for other heat lines on other pipes. So far, my pipe hasn���t frozen, and it���s been well below freezing temperatures for a couple days now. So far, so good.

Very easy for installing and does a good job. I had install this for a just in case and very glad I did. I had some below 0 evening and I didn���t have to let my water drip since I had the heat tape installed. Great product and very easy for installing

This lengthy pipe heating cable looks like it will address an issue in my cabin build, which is up on piers with the underside (and one of the drains) exposed for a run of about 25 feet. My plumbing experts have different opinions on whether the downslope of drains will continue to run as designed in sub-freezing temps. Just to be on the safe side, I am wrapping this pipe heating cable around the the drain as well as a bubble-wrap type of insulation. It's supposed to be 9 degrees Farenheit tomorrow night here in Texas: just in time! We have an exposed hose bib at the church that needed protection. This came with the heat tape, instructions, and fiberglass tape to hold it in place on the pipe. We then wrapped it with some insulation foam. I'll update the review once we that back out here in 2-3 days...

This is much more robust than other heat tapes I have used. It heats quickly once the temperature drops low enough. Be sure to leave the thermostat part exposed to the cold air. We have a greenhouse. On cold nights my wife puts row covers over the plants. She is using this under the row covers to keep the temperature a little higher.

The way this works is you wrap it around metal or plastic water pipes (not on flexible vinyl like garden hoses) starting at the coldest end of the pipes because the temperature sensor is located near the plug. The pipe should then be wrapped in 1/2" non-flammable insulation to contain the heat from the cable.The temperature sensor needs to sit firmly against the pipe to accurately monitor the temperature. The heater turns on when the temperature drops below 43'F (6'C) and will heat the pipe until the temperature sensor reaches 55'F (13'C). This prevents the water from freezing in the pipe which causes damage as the ice expands. If the pipe never reaches below 43'F the heating cable will stay switched off, saving power. This cable can't be used on pipes that heat above 150'F. Tape is included to ensure good contact between the pipe and heating cable.I suggest testing the unit before installing it. There are two ways to test:1). plug in the heating cable and tape an ice pack to the temperature sensor. Within 5minutes the cable should feel warm. Remove the ice pack from the sensor and the cable will begin to cool. Due to the insulated cable, it can take 30 minutes or more to cool down. If the cable is uncoiled, it will cool faster. Note the cable will get hot to the touch if the ice pack stays on the sensor, so only leave it on long enough to test.2). Testing for maintenance. Use a multimeter on the ohm setting to test between the hot leads and ground (each square lead to the round lead). The reading should be above 50Mohm... most multimeters will read "O.L" as the resistance will be out of range. Annually the cable can be checked by unplugging it and repeating this measurement. If the readings are less than 50Mohm the cable should be replaced. (A shorted cable is a fire hazard).

The pipe heating cable worked as advertised, Easy to install and I no longer worry about the pipes freezing.Very pleased with this product.Note -- Ensure you follow the directions, the thermostat Must be touching and secured to the pipe as stated in the instructions.

This was so easy to install! I live in Michigan and we are already down into the 20s and will be in single digits by the end of the week. This item is very easy to install and looks to be of good quality. Plug it in and leave it plugged in all winter, instant peace of mind! Very nice!
