Way better than expected!
Clean design, bullet-proof, super stable. The round top makes comfortable in the hand to carry.

He liked it before
Husband had shoulder surgery - just before the heating season. Got this for him, and saw him picking up splits off the ground, so I cut the bottom out of a 8 gal plastic nursery pot, and voila ! no more bending over needed. He liked it before, and loves it now.

Best Kindling Tool you can buy. Built from Solid Cast Iron To Last Many Years.
This really is the only way to split kindling. It's the ultimate tool that anyone can safely use. I actually split kindling right in the comfort of my living room.

Great product. Make spltting kindling a breeze.
Great product, Makes splitting kindling a breeze. After using mine on the ground, then bolted to a log... I decided to saw off a bucket and mount the Kindling cracker in the bucket... on the log. Now the mess and the kindling stays in one place and is convenient when I want to build a fire. A few holes drilled around the side keep the water drained and the kindling dry.

Another case where a product performs as well as or better than advertised. The day it arrived I went out to our wood pile and started splitting logs our neighbor gave us. Half the wood is oak the other half pine. I had no question this splitter would take care of the pine easily. However it worked just as well on the hard oak. I purchased a 4 LB sledge hammer the day before which made the job super easy. I would have liked the splitter to be 6" taller to allow longer logs but that's a minor issue.

Time saver - back saver
Been chopping wood the old fashioned way with an axe to split the pieces down to smaller size for many years. Well we all know sometimes it doesn't split apart and the axe is *stuck* in the wood so we lift up the wood piece and axe and whack it on the chopping block a time or two until it splits apart. That's hard work to lift the piece of wood with the axe. Sure wish I knew about this product years ago. Now all you do is take your 3-4 lb mini sledge and a couple of taps and the wood piece splits nicely. Your neck, shoulders and back are saved with this method. The female inventor is a genius! Love it.

This is the original and it shows.
This item is very sturdy and industrial feeling. Super easy to use just like the video shows. This is the original so don't get suckered by a cheaper knockoff. You really can't go wrong with this item. I'm using it for a fire pit, but if I was using it for larger pieces (6.5"+) for a home wood burner I would probably get the larger size. Just make sure you have a decent little hammer like a 3 lbs sledge. They say you can use another piece of wood, but that sounds rather awkward and not exactly an efficient way to use this tool.

It works.
I'm using the flat end of a 5lb maul with this device, and I love it. For the first time I can easily and safely split logs down into kindling of a size that make starting the woodstove very quick and easy. I love that the design does a decent (not perfect) job of holding the log in place for, so that my hands can hold the maul. Some logs take 4 or 5 whacks before they split, while others split first try. I don't have to swing the maul very hard... usually my first try is a light tap, which either splits it or sets it in place better. My second swing is a little harder, and if that does not do the trick, my third swing is a little harder yet. I never lift the maul head higher than my shoulder, and never give it more than what I would consider a medium swing. I have NOT needed to secure the bottom so far. Great product.

Excellent construction
Cast iron. Very solid. This is a tool built to last a lifetime. The blade is quite sharp to split firewood when it comes out of the box, but a little touch up on the blade won't hurt. I recommend a diamond stone of around 1000 grit.

great tool
bought this as a gift for my daughter for her fire pit wood splitting. This thing is nicely made and fully cast metal. No weld joints. One review I read before ordering said the blade wasn't sharp. The one I received is very sharp for a casting. It's designed in New Zealand and manufactured in Australia. No made in China copy. It's ideal for making "store bought" firewood into kindling and smaller logs. Great for your fire pit or campfire and much safer than the ax or hatchet.
