Works great in hard clay. I have used the spade on several occasions and it has performed very well. I use the spade for shallow trenches in crawlspaces and for digging trenches around homes for French drains. I have buried the spade in hard clay past the large diameter of the shank with no issues of bending or breaking.

Perfect in every way and makes tough jobs much easier, such a time saver it makes me money!
