no frozen pipes
In the past we have had issues with our sump pump discharge freezing the pipe, so we got this to prevent that. It supposedly has a thermostat that only turns on as needed, but there is no way to tell if this claim is true. Our pipe hasn't frozen but can't totally say it is because of this. I wish there was a way to tell when it is on or off

Works great!
This is a very nice product. It works exactly as it is described and is easy to install. It seems to be quality made and it feels like it is built to last. I have had no problems with it, and have no problem recommending this product.

Frozen water
As yet i have not had frozen water in my horse stables since i wired my stand pipe with this wire heater. The temperature has been down s low as 5*F. And as far as cost to run it, the speed of my electric meter does not move any more or less when its on or off.

Effective
I was a little hung up deciding between 4 and 5 stars for this heat tape. For what it is, it works very well and I love the length and the value of this tape, but it's not rated for the same kind of cold that the other tape I have is rated for and it's a bit less flexible. Now with those two things taken into consideration- it works well and for the most part, the temperature rating on this will work in most situations. I just happen to live in an arctic region that has about 3 weeks out of the year where it gets below the 0F rating. So using this is more for a fix than for a semi-permanent installation so I'm not risking cracking it.Heat tapes are one of the safest ways to thaw pipes. So used within it's limits, it's not a fire hazard.

Nicely finished for outdoor use
Installed by my HVAC contractor who selected this model for the outside unit. The exposed drainpipe and proximity to an outlet made the install straightforward.

Running water below 0°!
I have an off grid water system so my containment unit is above ground and I have been really worried about it freezing this year but it is -2 right now and I have not had a single problem with it.

Vevor Self Regulating Pipe Cable - Easy And Effective
This Vevor self regulating pipe cable is very effective and it has a few features that are different than the norm. And it's also easy to use, working in a standard 110 outlet. I have used a few different brands and I still need to do a little more research on how the thermostat works. But overall I am pretty pleased. For starters, getting this on your pipes is as simple as using 2 sided tape or some kind of foil wrap tape and just wrapping it around your pipes. The most difficult thing about the installation is making sure you have judged correctly as it pertains to the length you need. These can get pretty expensive as you get longer. But once you have it wrapped and taped, the last thing you have to do is just plug it into an outlet. The plug is clear and includes an LED light so you can see when you have a good power connection. This specific one has a self contained thermostat that is supposed to turn itself on when it gets cold enough. In my case I only installed it after we were already in the throws of winter. So it's difficult to know if it will really turn itself off when it gets warmer. But I guess we will see.In terms of value, these cables are all expensive. I have found that these online are more reasonable than at the big box retailers and by a lot. So in that sense they are also a no brainer. And the ones I have gotten from the big box retailers didn't have the built-in thermostats or the light up plugs.CONCLUSIONThis is a great product to help to protect your plumbing in winter climates. I will update this once I have seen how well they work through the whole season.

Works well; instructions could be better.
Living in Maine with an unheated crawlspace under my house, freezing pipes can be a problem. This pipe-heating cable has done the job so far this winter, so that's great. One of the plusses of this product is the thorough and mostly-well-written manual, which uses a chart to tell you how much cable you'll need for certain lengths of pipe under certain temperature conditions. There are some flubs in the English of the manual, and also one confusing part of the chart: A caption to the chart refers to sections of the chart where the cable can be run straight along the pipe rather than coiled around it, but in fact there aren't any parts of the chart where the cable doesn't have to be coiled. That error made me wonder just how reliable the manual is in general, but in the end everything seems to be working as expected.
