I am fermenting in small batches of 1.1 to 1.25 gallons of wine grape must. At time of pressing there is at least 2 quarts, enclosed in a straining bag that goes into the press. After pressing, there is about 1 quart or a little more of solids that are discarded. So if your fermentation batches are larger than mine, say 5 gallons, the pressing stage would need to be broken up into smaller (2 quart) parts. This could prove to be messy.
Before buying this press make sure (at 1/2 gallon) it is large enough for your needs, otherwise buy a larger unit.
Everything worked fine within the size constraints of this press. Its small, easy to maintain, and easy to store and easy to use for small jobs (see comments above.)
