I bought this vise to use in a specific place that it had the proper dimensions to fit. Honestly, I didn't really expect it to be nearly as good as it turned out to be. It is solidly constructed, well machined, smooth, and plenty strong. It requires adding a chop to the face of it to make it work, and the back support comes off smoothly to allow marking holes for drilling the face and any wooden support you may wish to add. I added 1.5 inches to the bottom of my bench top, to give some added depth from the supports to the top of the bench, and it mounted very securely with four 5/16ths lag bolts. (about 4" long) I have been very pleasantly surprised by the high quality of the machining and construction. FI would definitely recommend this vise to anyone needing a small vise of this type.

I have installed (2) of these vises on a bench I just built; they work smooth without binding or feeling sloppy. Overall weight and diameter of guide rods are nice and are the rods chrome finished.My only concern is that some of the mounting holes are too close to the cast features, this interference prevents a tool like a socket being used on the bolts. You'll have to use an open end wrench for two bolts.The price was a fair value. I would rate at least 4 to 4 1/2.

Mounted to my table easily and works like it should.

The only complaint I have is that it not made in the USA and I had to make my own handle. Other than that, it is a very good buy and value. The jaws open up to 9", minus the thickness of your clamping boards.
